UK falls behind on broadband provision
The UK has been ranked at a lowly number 22 in a chart of the world's most digitally-advanced nations.
Research firm Strategy Analytics gave the UK a Broadband Composite Index (BCI) score of 5.97 based upon a range of factors such as speed, coverage and affordability.
South Korea topped the chart with a BCI reading of 9.14, ahead of Hong Kong (7.58), the Netherlands (7.53), Lithuania (7.52) and Japan (7.42).
The only minor positive for the UK is that the US trailed in one place lower at 23, with a score of 5.96.
Ben Piper, director of the Strategy Analytics Multiplay Market Dynamics service, said the traditional single-metric approach for analysing broadband is becoming increasingly irrelevant.
"We feel confident that our multifactor index is a superior indicator of a country's relative broadband advancement," he stated.
Earlier this year, Akamai ranked the UK as having the 26th highest average broadband speed in the world.
