"We filled the vacancy the next day"
Cyber Security Challenge launched
The gauntlet has been laid down to a new generation of IT security experts in the UK with the launch of the Cyber Security Challenge.
Registration for the government-backed initiative, announced at InfoSec in April, which aims to plug the UK skills gap, opened today (26th July).
"At the moment universities are not filling course places, and many firms struggle to find the right people for key roles. It's all about explaining to the next generation that there is a real diversity and range of skills needed," said Cyber Security Challenge UK director Judy Baker.
Several competitions are being launched to encourage prospective IT security pros to show the industry what they're made of.
The first challenge, the QinetiQ Network Defence Competition, will see teams review and defend a simulated network against cyber attacks orchestrated by security professionals.
Ms Baker explained that ten teams will be taking part in the challenge during its first year, before it is opened up fully in 2011.
