ISPA welcomes call for IT security pros

The Internet Service Providers' Association (ISPA) has welcomed plans to encourage more people to become IT security professionals.

Earlier this week, the government-backed Cyber Security Challenge was launched in a bid to find the next generation of security experts.

Involving a series of games and challenges, the initiative was devised to address the issue of a gap in the UK's technical skills.

And Nicholas Lansman, ISPA secretary general, hailed the idea: "The work that cyber security professionals do is incredibly important and ISPA welcomes the effort to encourage more people in to this profession.

"ISPA members recognise the importance of ensuring that users can access the internet confident that they are protected."

People taking part in the Cyber Security Challenge can win prizes, including internships, masters funding and places at the Detica Academy.

The first challenge, the QinetiQ Network Defence Competition, will see teams review and defend a simulated network against cyber attacks orchestrated by security professionals.
