"We filled the vacancy the next day"

IT 'central to 2012 Olympics'

IT will be at the heart of the Olympic Games in 2012, according to the head of recruitment of the Games' organising body.

Paul Modley, of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympics Games (LOCOG), told members of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) Technology sector group that skilled IT staff would be in high demand during the Games.

REC Technology members heard that overall staffing levels would rise to over 200,000 before the start of the event, working in either a voluntary, paid or contractor capacity.

And with journalists and athletes to join the fold, Mr Modley highlighted how crucial technology would be in making sure the whole thing runs smoothly.

He said the sheer scale of the Games would require exceptional coordination at all levels.

Jeff Brooks, chair of REC Technology, added: "We already know that technology is an important tool in the delivery of services in most organisations and it was great to see how London 2012 is thinking ahead to manage the challenges the Games will bring.

"The commitment to diversity and local employment was also a welcome sign."
