Socitm urges steady IT spending
As the IT industry strives for stability in the aftermath of the global economic crisis, one leading body has called on tech bosses to keep spending steady in order to stimulate growth.
It its Benchmarking services summary, Socitm noted the fall in IT spending over the past four years and recognised the need to save money where possible.
But the body urged businesses to see spending as a way to fuel future growth, providing investments are steady and considered.
"Given the imperative to save, we would expect organisations to maintain ICT spend, if not to increase it," the organisation stated.
"Of course, political pressures dictate that ICT must take its share of the pain. We advise the ICT function to focus its savings on its business as usual capability, and to maintain or strengthen its capability to tackle transformational projects."
Jos Creese, Socitm's president, recently urged the coalition government to protect vital IT projects after it was announced that several were under threat.
