Companies to increase hardware spending

Businesses are set to increase their spending on hardware during the next 12 months, it has been revealed.

Figures from IDC FutureScan in the US showed predicted growth of 5.2 per cent with the UK expected to follow a similar trend.

The findings are the latest in a long line of promising sings for the IT industry, with several major analysts predicting global growth following a tough couple of years.

Stephen Minton, IDC FutureScan's vice president of worldwide IT markets and strategies, noted some of the factors behind the projected growth.

"From what we can see at IDC, there is still a major hardware refresh going on, software sales are starting to pick up, and services backlogs are building even if revenue is not," he said.

Overall IT spending will increase by 2.9 per cent this year, according to Gartner's latest figures. Previously, the analyst had predicted growth of 4.1 per cent.
