Intel Corporation buys McAfee
Intel Corporation has purchased security company McAfee in a deal worth $7.68 billion (£4.9 billion).
In a statement released by Intel, the tech firm advised that McAfee will continue to operate as a "wholly-owned subsidiary" that will integrate into Intel's Software Services Group.
Explaining the reason behind the move, the firm went on to say it was motivated by the need to "enable a combination of security software and hardware from one company to ultimately better protect consumers, corporations and governments as billions of devices - and the server and cloud networks that manage them - go online."
McAfee is one of the most well-known software security brands in the market, with millions of consumers using its services to protect against malware, spyware and viruses.
Founded in 1987 and headquartered in California, it is billed as the world's largest dedicated security technology company.
