SMEs to increase IT spending
Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are set to increase their IT spending this year, a new study has revealed.
According to research by Techaisle, SMEs will spend $444 billion (£285 billion) worldwide on IT products and services in 2010.
This represents a growth rate of 5.2 per cent compared to last year and highlights the growing confidence in the global economy.
Further findings from the analyst showed that firms with 50-99 employees would see the biggest growth (7.9 per cent), while the biggest spenders will be companies with a workforce of between 100-249 employees, at $100 billion.
"An interesting point to note is that computing hardware among emerging market SMEs will form a whopping 56 per cent of the share of IT spend as SMEs are still at an early stage of adopting IT and are the lowest rung of IT building blocks," the report stated.
"At a global level, share of computing hardware is expected to be 34 per cent while software will be at 19 per cent."
Gartner's latest forecast revealed that overall IT spending will increase by 2.9 per cent this year.
