"We filled the vacancy the next day"
Botnet spamming could boost IT security recruitment
New research has shown that the number of spam emails originating from botnets has increased dramatically.
Despite an overall fall in the total number of spam emails sent during the month August, the proportion of messages being sent from infected computers has reached 95 per cent - up from 84 per cent in April.
The change to the way spam emails are delivered could influence businesses IT security and infrastructure recruitment processes as they attempt to deal with the consistent influx of malicious messages.
Paul Wood, MessageLabs Intelligence's senior analyst at Symantec Hosted Services, said: "Overall, the total amount of spam in circulation is down slightly from the previous quarters as most botnets have reduced their number of bots.
"We have seen impressive activity from the usual botnet suspects ... and in many cases there are likely to be newer incarnations of existing botnets."
According to the MessageLabs Intelligence Report, 17.6 per cent of botnets have yet to be classified.
Sean Sullivan, a security adviser at F-Secure, has claimed that email spam could soon be eclipsed by Facebook spam.
