HP boosts Scottish IT recruitment
Technology firm Hewlett-Packard (HP) is set to boost IT recruitment in Scotland.
The firm is to create some 700 jobs in Erskine, near Glasgow, as it creates a new IT services hub.
HP will be supported by the Scottish government, which is handing over £7 million to help it set up the new venture at its Renfrewshire facility.
Commenting on HP's infrastructure recruitment plans, Scottish first minister Alex Salmond told the BBC: "This announcement is testament to Scotland's strong reputation for excellence in IT and customer services.
"HP's decision to make this investment at Erskine reflects the quality of Scotland's skilled workforce to perform and deliver success."
Meanwhile, Marc Waters, head of strategy and integration at HP for the UK and Ireland, claimed that HP has always had strong links with Scotland.
According to Business Week, HP has kept its lead in the server sector, increasing its market share to 32 per cent.
