Misconfigured networks a threat to security
Some businesses are compromising their online security by failing to properly configure their networks.
A recent DEFCON convention showed that hackers thrive on finding misconfigured networks, and there are plenty of them about.
IT workers who know how to configure a network are key assets to firms as poor configuration can leave businesses vulnerable to all sorts of threats.
Tufin Technologies carried out a survey at the convention, questioning IT security professionals and researchers, to ascertain the trends within the hacking community and the impact on corporate security.
Some 73 per cent of respondents said they came across misconfigured networks on a regular basis, while 76 per cent of the hackers asked noted that such networks were easy to exploit.
According to research from internet security provider Symantec, last year businesses experience a 100 per cent increase in the number of malware threats they faced compared to 2008.
