Google auto-translation 'will open up the internet to IT professionals'
The launch of a new in-browser translation service for the popular browser Google Chrome will be of benefit to IT professionals such as applications specialists who may use foreign websites as a resource.
The service allows users to instantly translate a foreign language into English (and vice versa), using Google's proprietary software.
Tim Gibbon, the co-founder and editor of the Social Media Portal, said the move potentially opens up further areas of the internet to users such as IT professionals.
He said it would help internet users to source "an international flavour" from the web.
Worldwide, English is the dominant language, with 478 million net speakers, closely followed by Chinese at 384 million and Spanish in third with 137 million users.
Mr Gibbon believes the in-browser translation service can help to assuage the communication barriers which exist between the separate languages.
"Translations via a browser can now change this [disparity], and although it may not be perfect, it will be a vast improvement to what is currently available," he explained.
