Winning Moves

"We filled the vacancy the next day"

Hardware developers focused on virtualisation, says IDC

Hardware developers are expected to face a period of change over the next year, as IT managers look to an increasingly broad array of solutions for enterprise computing and communications.

That is the message from consultants at IDC, who believe that there is an increasing willingness in the IT industry to look at new solutions and explore different applications to bolster their technical infrastructure.

Among the innovations expected to gain ground is client virtualisation, which aims to "decouple the PC from the physical desktop", with IDC suggesting a wide range of developments are already underway in the sector.

Reuben Tan, senior manager of client devices at IDC Asia/Pacific's domain research group, said virtual desktop deployment was flourishing.

"To capitalise on this burgeoning market, the need to promote and increase standardisation of holistic solutions is paramount," he commented.

"So is education, support and guidance along every stage of deployment.

"IT managers need to also understand that this is not a 'one size fits all' model, and as long as organisations are fully aware of the risks and inherent benefits of client virtualisation, the argument is certainly compelling, and the resultant growth in this space will ensue."
