New banks looking for IT recruits

IT recruits are in high demand from companies setting up banking operations, reports Computer Weekly.

Staff at existing retail banks are also being targeted by the newly emerging banks, which include those being established by Tesco and Virgin Money.

Those with previous experience in banking are attracting the most interest, meaning the traditional retail banks have a fight on their hands to retain the most highly-qualified candidates.

Companies behind the new banks are capitalising on the fact that many of the leading retail banks have seen their operations weakened by the credit crunch, reports the online computer magazine.

Bob McDowall, analyst for Towergroup, told the website: "These new banks need to do a lot in a short period of time. They also have the investment behind them and can pay a premium for IT staff."

The Post Office is also set to offer banking services and, like its burgeoning competitors, will need to invest heavily in IT.
