Companies want more IT-skilled staff

Companies are increasingly reliant on internal auditors to help improve organisational processes and ensure the quality of essential risk management programmes, but many are concerned about their lack of IT skills.

A study by audit firm Protiviti revealed the majority of companies questioned cited IT related skills as the key area for improvement.

The shortfall occurred across a number of categories such as IT governance and the Guide to the Assessment of IT risk (GAIT), as well as Computer-Assisted Audit Techniques (CAATs) – which has remained the most in demand area of audit process knowledge for three straight years.

IT savvy professionals have been in growing demand for roles such as internal auditing, which require fast and efficient employees with good knowledge of the systems used.

Martin Bean, chairman of the Open University, recently told Kable.co.uk that the so-called digital divide was no longer based on access, but the ability to capitalise on IT.

He said IT skills were "essential" in the modern world, and crucial in a number of industries.
