IT recruitment set to rise

Recruitment in IT is set to increase over the rest of the year, according to new figures from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

The economic climate is continually improving and the positive benefits are now manifesting themselves in the jobs market, including in the technology sector.

According to the CBI, a quarter of firms will increase their workforce this year, while the number of companies opting for a freeze on recruitment has fallen to just five per cent, down from 65 per cent in 2009.

More full-time staff will be taken on as companies seek to decrease their reliance on part time employees.

Albert Ellis, chief executive of Harvey Nash, the CBI's partners in conducting the research, said the growth is expected to continue with more staff to be taken on during 2010.

"This is most concentrated in technology, financial services sectors and some areas of manufacturing," he said.

Earlier this month, a survey of chief financial officers revealed that IT companies are feeling positive about hiring and economic conditions in general.
