Tesco Bank project 'making good progress'

Tesco has announced its plans to establish a banking division are beginning to take shape as its technology investments start to take hold.

The retailer revealed in a statement that its Tesco Bank division "continues to make good progress in the development of its own infrastructure with system testing underway and recruitment of staff for its new operational centre," CIO.co.uk reports.

Last year, the company said it was building a bank "from scratch" with low levels of public confidence in existing brands cited as an influential factor.

Andrew Higginson, head of retail services at Tesco, who is set to lead the new bank, told The Guardian the implementation of a new IT infrastructure was a "huge undertaking".

Earlier this year, both Tesco and Virgin Money, which is also setting up a new bank, said they were on the lookout for IT staff, with employees at existing retail banks being targeted.
