Public sector execs place emphasis on IT security
Public sector executives say that security is a top priority as new technologies bring a diverse array of threats, research has found.
According to IDC Government Insights, emerging technologies such as cloud computing are presenting unique challenges to bosses in the public sector.
This could lead bodies to step up their security efforts, emphasising the need for a skilled IT department that can effectively respond to threats.
"The tide has changed: IDC Government Insights sees growth in the security front as governments contend with new societal and technological trends that increasingly demand open access to information and data over exposed public networks," said Janet Chiew, research manager at the firm.
Industry analyst Phillip Alsop recently noted that IT security professionals can play an integral role in improving the efficiency of the companies they work for. He said those looking to bolster their response to security risks should undertake a thorough overview of data management strategies.
