Cyber attacks target chancellor's website

A website launched by chancellor George Osborne has been targeted by cyber attacks, forcing parts of it to be closed down.

All interactive elements of the site have been suspended after they were found to have fallen victim to malicious activity, HM Treasury announced.

The halting of interactive features on the site, which encourages UK citizens to submit ideas about spending cuts, means people cannot currently view ideas sent in to the treasury.

Until the attack, proposals put forward by members of the public would appeal on the site which included a facility for other users to vote and comment.

Speaking to GC News, a spokesperson for the department said interactive areas on the site "Have been taken down" but could not say when it would be restored.

After the incident, a notice on the site said: "As you may have noticed, the site has been the subject to a small number of malicious attacks so we have unfortunately had to pause on the interactive features for now, but we're still keen to hear any further ideas you have, which we may publish at a later date."
