While many businesses have already adopted the cloud computing IT
infrastructure model, many are failing to take full advantage of the technology.
According to new research from Osterman Research and Electric Cloud, professionals in the top echelons of IT
infrastructure recruitment - including chief information officers and company directors - are struggling to overcome the barriers that are preventing cloud computing from becoming even more successful.
Electric Cloud chief executive officer Mike Maciag said: "Cloud computing is real and happening, and in the enterprise, private cloud is happening first.
"But many of those resources are sitting unused."
He cited the case of software development and testing, which he claimed are "a perfect fit for private cloud computing", but noted that many developers haven't been able to use the technology to its full extent because there are still gaps between existing infrastructure and available
applications.
Analyst Forrester recently urged businesses to prepare themselves for the widespread adoption of social technology.
