Facebook tops Google media poll
Facebook has topped a Google poll of the most popular searches carried out this year among social media, communication and news sites.
Social media sites, which are increasingly used in the recruitment of engineering specialists and project managers, dominated the list.
Commenting on the findings Sam Tilston, online marketing director at internet mail order company Zoombits.co.uk, said that sites should include news and references to popular search terms in order to take advantage of rising searches.
"This will ensure the site is up to date and has content related to these high volume search terms, thus delivering traffic," he added.
Mr Tilston went on to say that all the most popular sites generally provide the information a user is looking for within two clicks of the home page.
Google's year-end analysis for the UK market found that the top ten searches for 2009 were Facebook, BBC, YouTube, hotmail, games, eBay, news, Google, Yahoo and Bebo.
