IBM to recruit 400 applications staff in London

IBM is to recruit 400 applications staff with the opening of a new analytics centre in London.

The announcement comes after recent studies suggest financial services staff are battling with regulatory requirements to bolster their risk management technology systems, according to a report on the Financial Careers website.

The international IT and consulting services company is hoping to capitalise on this issue, focusing its new operation on the UK financial services sector.

IBM is initially recruiting 400 consultants, software specialists and mathematicians and hopes to develop new systems that "provide improved visibility and tracking of risk positions across markets and asset classes".

However, this workforce is expected to double if demand for IBM's services picks up.

Brendon Riley, chief executive of IBM UK and Ireland, said the firm chose London for its new centre "due to its status as a global financial centre and world-class skills base".

Operating in over 170 countries, IBM launched in the UK in 1951 and today has around 20,000 employees.
