MoD spends £343k on wireless communication system
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced the completion of a sub-contraction deal to provide its ships with a new wireless communication system.
Selex Communications is to receive £343,000 to complete the design phase of the job, which forms part of a £52 million scheme for improving equipment on the Navy's new aircraft carriers.
Some £484,000 is to be spent on internet protocol TV from Telindus, while £14 million is going to Marine Systems Technology for water-tight fire doors.
Contracts have also been handed out to McGeoch Technology for ship lighting and distribution panels (£3 million) and Babcock Strachan and Henshaw, which received £15 million for an integrated waste management system.
Announcing the procurement, head of capital ships with MoD's defence equipment and support Tony Graham said: "Our supply chain stretches the length and breadth of the UK and as such we recognise that the build of these two important warships is a national endeavour of great consequence for jobs, skills and local pride."
Last month, the MoD stated its new Royal Air Force Tornado was a "potent and flexible" plane due to new state-of-the-art improvements.
