"We filled the vacancy the next day"
MoD joins forces with France in £35m deal
Technology specialists at the Ministry of Defence (MoD) are to join forces with their counterparts in France to create a new weapon.
Some £35 million is to be ploughed into the initiative, with the UK government announcing the assessment phase will begin a two-year period of work.
An anti-surface missile for use by the Navy will be constructed as part of the scheme, which follows similar agreements between the two nations.
Speaking at the Defence Systems Exhibition International, minister for defence equipment Quentin Davies said the needs of the UK and France are "closely aligned".
"By bringing together industry expertise we are strengthening our technical knowledge, allowing us to equip our forces with the best highly-advanced anti-surface missile for them to use for years to come," he remarked.
Earlier this week, the MoD announced it was to spend £52 million on new aircraft carriers.
The cash will go to a number of contractors, with £15 million of the pot spent on gaining Babcock Strachan and Henshaw's expertise with integrated waste management systems.
