Network Rail 'increasing recruitment of technology-focused engineering staff'
The recruitment of engineering staff in Cambridgeshire is set to increase after Network Rail announced details of a recycling centre.
Some 25 new positions are to be created at March's Whitemoor Yard (WY), a plant which is aiming to slash the amount of train materials being sent to landfill by 50,000 tonnes while supporting local biodiversity.
The development has been vetoed by the local county council and was also displayed at a public exhibition which gave local residents a chance to have a say.
WY was reopened in 2004 and has since undergone a number of changes to improve the local environment, including the creation of cycle paths and areas for animals.
Commenting, development manager at the body David Millar said: "[It] will bring jobs to March, provide a vital boost the construction industry in Cambridgeshire and help make rail travel even greener than it is today."
In related news, Network Rail's technology specialists are set to be involved in a £71 million project to transfer freight from roads to rail between Southampton and Nuneaton.
