"We filled the vacancy the next day"
Superfast broadband locations revealed by BT
Businesses in a total of 29 locations around the country will be able to access superfast broadband from 2010, BT has announced.
The company explains its fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) technology will be deployed in the exchanges, providing users with speeds of up to 40 MB/s.
Areas of Belfast, Greater Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff and London will be among the first locations to see the new deployment.
Steve Robertson, chief executive officer of BT's division responsible for the delivery of the plans, said superfast broadband is "essential" to the future of the UK.
"The wider industry will now be able to plan ahead as we will be making our services available on a wholesale basis. This approach will benefit customers as there will undoubtedly be fierce competition for their business," he added.
The next set of locations will be announced in autumn.
Earlier this month, BT's Global Services division was named as top operator by Telemark Services.
