Ministry of Defence aircraft 'contains state-of-the-art technology'

Senior Ministry of Defence (MoD) staff have invested in the latest technology for one of its aircrafts, it has been stated.

The Royal Air Force Tornado GR4 is a "potent and flexible" craft thanks to new state-of-the-art improvements, according to the government organisation.

Among these are the latest in avionics innovation and reconnaissance software, which are to be further upgraded during the upcoming second phase of development.

Panavia has been awarded a £28 million contract to oversee the changes, which will include crafts undergoing technical tests while ascertaining the best way of tackling fatigue problems.

It is expected the first portion of the work will take around three years, focusing on one in-service plane.

The Mid-Life Fatigue Programme is expected to last until 2025, when the GR4/4A fleet are due to be taken out of action.

Earlier this year, General Dynamics UK was awarded a £231 million MoD contract to upgrade its Bowman software.

The deal aimed to improve the system's performance and sustainability.
