"We filled the vacancy the next day"
New signalling technology 'will improve London Underground performance'
Technology specialists at Transport for London (TfL) have instigated changes in the tube's signalling system which will improve future reliability and frequency, it has been asserted.
London Underground director Richard Parry made the comment while publishing TfL's annual PPP report.
"We've made good progress towards the Victoria line upgrade with the first new train now in passenger service," he remarked.
However, Mr Parry criticised contractor Tube Lines, stating it had made a "lack of progress" with improvements to the Jubilee portion of the network.
He said the firm had been granted numerous weekend closures, which it should have used to greater advantage.
Mayor of the city Boris Johnson also voiced his frustration, stating the organisation's apparent slow development is "unacceptable".
"Tube Lines must get its act together if Londoners are to benefit from faster, more frequent and reliable services," he added.
In related news, transport minister Sadiq Khan recently announced plans for a nationwide rollout a smart ticketing system similar to that used by London's Oyster card.
