Staff training 'essential for business success'

Regular upskilling sessions for staff are essential for business success, it has been asserted. Law firm Pinsent Masons has said investment in training is "more than just desirable" at the moment, pointing out it has a number of benefits. Not only do employees gain skills to help them improve in their jobs, it allows them to "buy into" the ethos of the company, it remarked. The company also claimed running courses is a way of "retaining […] engagement" with individuals. Selwyn Blyth, partner at the organisation, commented its in-house sessions have "really taken off". "If you're looking at something like the Equality Bill, it puts the emphasis on ensuring that people are up to date and ensuring that they are able to deal with equality issues in a pro-active way," he added. Mr Blyth added although many firms are looking closely at their spending, many "still perceive the importance" of ongoing skills sessions.
