Government 'must clarify internet plans'
It is important that senior public sector staff outline their expectations for the future of internet access in the UK, an expert has suggested.
David Campbell from BT Group firm Openreach called on the government to "clearly define" the difference between Next Generation Access (NGA) and the much-discussed two megabits per second broadband speed.
He is managing director of the NGA programme at the telecommunications organisation and made his remarks at a Westminster eForum keynote seminar titled Broadband for All?.
"If everyone gets two megabits at 03:00 (BST) when no one is using the network or the mobile masts or is it two megabits in the busy hour? It makes a big difference to the service customers receive," he said.
The meeting saw officials discuss how new web technology can be introduced to a mass audience and the ways public services could be delivered to the proletariat via the medium in the future.
Among the topics on the agenda was how public and private bodies such as companies with infrastructure developers could join forces to make sure broadband is available to all.
