IT spending forecast to increase in 2010

There will be more money available for internet applications spending and infrastructure recruitment across world IT departments in 2010, research shows.

IT spending is expected to increase by 4.6 per cent this year across all major segments, according to Gartner forecasts.

This follows a decline in spending of 4.6 per cent in 2009, with analysts previously estimating that global sector would not recover until at least 2011.

Research vice-president at the analysis firm Richard Gordon said: "Our updated forecast for IT spending to reach $3.4 trillion (£2.09 trillion) in 2010 is actually a year earlier than we expected, levelling our previous forecast update, and reflecting a bounce back in underlying IT spending from the sharp drop in 2009."

The forecasts have been published following a survey of chief information officers by Gartner earlier this month, which indicated that 2010 IT budgets will be at 2005 levels.
