Internships "excellent" option for graduates

Taking part in an internship scheme is an "excellent" way to boost a CV, according to an expert. Independent university guide Push.co.uk asserted they could be particularly useful for graduates. Although payment for such initiatives is normally minimal – often only covering expenses – the organisation remarked they can help people develop their skills base. Johnny Rich is editor of the website and said those who can afford to take part should give it serious consideration as it can help them "stand out from the crowd". "You can have a more relevant degree or you can have something else to offer such as work experience - and ideally that work experience will be in something relevant to what you want to do," he explained. Mr Rich's remarks follow a move by the government to encourage individuals to sign up to an internship matching service. Universities secretary John Denham recently met with major employers to build better links ahead of a new scheme called the Graduate Talent Pool.
