Government calls for further innovation in high-tech sector
A senior member of public sector staff has called for businesses to invest more money in the high-tech sector.
Science and innovation minster Lord Drayson stated renewable energy could play a "huge part" in the future of the UK economy and its sustainability.
He made his comments following the publication of a new survey, which was commissioned by the department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
Officials from eight areas of commerce were quizzed by its pollsters, who found 20 per cent believe technology will grow at the fastest pace of all sectors by 2020.
Some 43 per cent think cleantech will see the most success in the same time period.
In recognition of the need for more money to be ploughed into innovation, the government recently launched the iawards scheme with Dragons Den star and private equity investor James Caan.
He remarked: "The UK is home to some of the most innovative minds in the world and we must continue to recognise and celebrate the work of these talented individuals."
One area that has seen recent funding from Westminster is the railways, where there are plans for a £34 billion upgrade of the line between London and Scotland in the coming years, which could halve commuting times.
