Microsoft's new search engine 'will deliver more useful information'

Microsoft is launching a new search engine it claims will help users "make smart decisions".

Bing is being rolled out over the next week and is planning to be fully set-up by June 3rd.

US users will be able to try the full software, with UK surfers gaining access to a beta version instead.

It includes a number of innovations, such as a new Explorer pane on the left-hand side of the screen which finds related results.

Time sensitivity is also a key feature. Looking for something when it is taking place – for example, the World Cup – will produce different results than months later.

It also has the ability to preview portions of text on websites by rolling over the search result, rather than directly visiting a portal.

Announcing the launch, chief executive officer at the firm Steve Ballmer commented the company tried to gain a "deep understanding" of how people use the web in order to facilitate its design.

"Bing is an important first step forward in our long-term effort to deliver innovations in search that enable people to find information quickly and use the information they've found to accomplish tasks and make smart decisions," he added.

It will replace the Windows Live-branded search tool once fully introduced.ADNFCR-2165-ID-19192734-ADNFCR
