Recruitment of engineering staff 'will increase'
The recruitment of engineering staff involved in manufacturing has been given a boost, according to the government.
Some £151.1 million has been ploughed into the sector by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, aimed at sustaining and developing technology-based jobs.
Rolls-Royce is among the recipients of the cash 800 jobs will be created or retained thanks to a £45 million injection in the company.
The money will go towards constructing a trio of new aerospace facilities and a civil nuclear plant.
Other portions of the capital are heading to the Printable Electronics Centre, the Manufacturing Advisory Service and SAMULET Research and Technology, among others.
Commenting, business secretary Peter Mandelson said the UK had secured "a lead" in the global market for hi-tech products.
"This practical package of measures will help equip British manufacturers, of all sizes and sectors, to take advantage of the advanced technologies and new market opportunities now shaping our low carbon industrial future," he added.
Earlier this month, the government announced a £12 million fund for industrial biotechnology firms in the north-east of England.
