Govt's super-fast broadband contribution 'not enough'
The government's pledge to help fund the next generation of broadband is not "anywhere near enough", according to an expert.
Last week's Budget outlined plans for delivering a universal service of internet connection at two megabits per second by 2012.
However, Point-Topic has claimed that since its not going to happen for many years, it may not make much of a difference.
Chief executive officer at the firm Oliver Johnson said he looked forward to Lord Carter's final report in the coming months, which should outline further details of the plan.
"At the moment, given how disappointed everyone's been by the previous announcements, we're not holding our breath," he commented.
The government scheme is also going to liaise with the BBC Trust on how unspent monies from their digital TV switchover initiative can be reinvested in broadband.
It also said it would review the powers Ofcom has, in an attempt to make sure businesses can compete in the market and balance competition with encouraging investment.
