Cloud computing 'cost-effective for SMEs'

Cloud computing's cost-effectiveness could lead to more infrastructure recruits using it during the next year, if one expert's comments are to be believed.

Some 54 per cent of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will utilise this type of server by the end of 2010, according to a survey by GooRoo.

Discussing this discovery, ThinkGrid claimed smaller companies may be particularly attracted by its low cost.

Chief operating officer at the firm David Pratt explained: "Moving to a cloud storage service means that they just pay for what they use, so they're never going to fill up their cloud storage."

With more people working from home, the software could help break down the complexity of connectivity, he added.

It also "ups the game" of less sizable operators and allows better access and continuity, Mr Pratt added.

His comments follow a recent report by the International Data Corporation, which predicted a growth of 31 per cent for the software during 2009.ADNFCR-2165-ID-19243914-ADNFCR
