Technology 'can plug manufacturing gap in UK economy'
An increase in the recruitment of digital media developers or infrastructure staff may plug a gap in the British economy, an expert has implied.
Noting a decline in manufacturing and financial services positions, Intellect suggested it is "vital" the hi-tech sector steps up to the plate in the coming years.
Programme manager at the government-affiliated association Jennifer Carlton said: "Coming out of the recession, Intellect believes that the technology industry will be at the core of new growth in the UK, offering a better balanced economy."
The body voiced its agreement with a recently published report which called for 250,000 jobs to be created in the IT sector over the next decade.
Micro Focus' Making BrITain Great Again research proposed this could be achieved through partnerships between Westminster, industry and entrepreneurship.
Ways this could be facilitated include tax incentives and more of a focus on encouraging overseas investors to plough cash into UK tech companies, the study claimed.
