IT agreement saves millions for HMRC

A revised agreement between HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and Capgemini will save a further £110 million a year from 2011, in addition to the £70 million per annum savings committed in 2007.

Systems will be standardised with common industry components, simplified, and modernised to better meet the needs of an integrated organisation, hardware recruitment specialists may be interested to know.

In return, HMRC has agreed that all core external IT spending will be made through the Aspire contract.

Lesley Strathie, chief executive for HMRC, said working with Capgemini had allowed HMRC to achieve "outstanding savings" for the department.

"This is just one of the ways HMRC will be reducing operating costs and it signals the intent to bring IT costs down as announced in the 2009 Budget," she added.

Nigel Martin, chief executive officer of Capgemini Aspire, said the flexible contract with HMRC was continuing to set the standard for all outsourcing arrangements five years after it was first signed.

The Aspire deal between Capgemini and HMRC was one of the world's largest IT outsourcing deals on its award in 2004.
