at Vodafone are hoping to turn the iPhone into a premier business device, it has emerged.

Peter Kelly, Vodafone's head of enterprise, recently explained to IT PRO that the company wants to make the iPhone into a must-have device for businesses.

However Peter Readman, director of ttMobiles, explained that firms must have a clear strategy in place for managing use of phones in a business environment.

He added that ten per cent of companies have no idea who has overall responsibility for mobile phones within the business.

"You can end the fragmentation of phone types and tariffs by centralising responsibility for the procurement and management of all mobiles," he said.

Twelve per cent of corporate mobiles are not in use and, additionally, up to four per cent of corporate mobiles are in the hands of ex-employees, so proper management of corporate phones is a priority, Mr Readman noted.
