Businesses may welcome new Skype app for iPhone
Businesses may be able to cut their communication costs by using the new Skype application for Apple's iPhone, which has been launched today.
Available to download from Apple's App Store, the communication software allows users to speak to each other for free over a Wi-fi internet connection and call landlines and mobiles for a fee.
The application is also compatible with any second-generation version of iPod's touch line of devices, allowing calling and instant messaging capabilities to be added.
Users of Skype will now be able to take their conversations anywhere in the world, according to Scott Durchslag, the company's chief operating officer.
"Skype for iPhone is an experience that offers the same simplicity, ease-of-use and quality our users have come to expect from Skype, combined with an elegance of design and richness so loved by Apple's many customers," he commented.
He added that an iPhone-compatible version of the application had been the "number one request" from the company's users.
Earlier this month, Skype joined a delegation of internet companies, which included Google and Daily Motion, calling on the EU to keep internet access unrestricted.
