Spotify app 'broadens iPhone appeal'
Apple should accept a new app devised by digital media developers at Spotify as it will broaden the iPhone's appeal, it has been claimed.
Commenting on the announcement by Daniel Ek's firm earlier this week, consumer site Mobile-Phones.co.uk argued the platform would be unlikely to affect profits at the Steve Jobs-founded company.
Lead content writer for the portal Tom Newton stated that although the move could hit revenue generated through the iTunes music store, the demand for a handset with Spotify would "outstrip" any loss.
He explained this was because the popularity of the free streaming service has "increased dramatically".
"The potential end result of this will be iPhone 3Gs at lower prices and the availability of an app that loads of people want - equalling loads more handset sales for Apple," Mr Newton concluded.
According to a recent report by GfK Retail and Technology, the music download market is continuing to grow this year.
Its data revealed at least 1.5 million tracks have been purchased each month during 2009.
