Software engineers 'have range of benefits'
The career of a software engineer appears to be both flexible and stable, while offering attractive prospects, it has been claimed.
Employment of software engineers is expected to increase by 32 per cent by 2018, making it one of the best current career prospects around, according to US News and World Report.
The news provider added that the professionals cover a diverse range of interest areas, from applications and video games to defence systems and security services.
In addition, the careers section of the newspaper stated that the job offers the opportunity of working from home and the prospect of earning a six-figure salary, for those with the right experience.
"The fastest growth in the sector is happening among engineers working on highly specific applications, with business spending increasing in areas like cybersecurity and mobile technologies," the publication added.
Earlier this month, business consultancy Analysys Mason commented that businesses which invest in their IT provision will be better placed after the recession.
