UK Shale Gas Debate: Opinion Divided Over Recent Decisions
North Yorkshire County Council’s decided to allow Third Energy to begin fracking near the village of Kirby Misperton in Ryedale earlier this May. Among the argued benefits of shale gas use is the security of an affordable energy supply for homes and businesses.
According to an opinion poll report on The Engineer, 40 per cent of respondents were in the pro-fracking camp, having responded that it either poses no risk, or would prove profitable. 41 per cent of respondents thought that fracking was either unsafe, unprofitable, or that it should not be burned. Of the remaining votes, 5 per cent thought fracking safe but not economically justified, and 14 per cent failing to find consensus with the options presented to them.
