About the Role
We are seeking a Freelance Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of cutting-edge hydrogen systems and renewable energy infrastructure. You will work closely with our engineering and R&D teams to design, optimize, and deliver innovative mechanical solutions that drive the transition to clean energy.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for hydrogen production, storage, and distribution.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and documentation using software such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or CATIA.
- Perform mechanical and thermal stress analyses and contribute to design validation through simulations (e.g., FEA).
- Collaborate with process, electrical, and control engineers to ensure system integration and manufacturability.
- Support prototype development, supplier engagement, and design reviews.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations (DIN/ISO, PED, ATEX).
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally within the renewable energy or hydrogen sector.
- Strong proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar).
- Knowledge of pressure vessel design, fluid systems, or thermal management is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with German and EU engineering standards.
- Excellent communication skills in English (German is an advantage).
- Self-driven, detail-oriented, and able to manage tasks independently in a remote environment.
