Mechanical Design Engineer – Remote

About the Role

We are seeking a Freelance Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of cutting-edge hydrogen systems and renewable energy infrastructure. You will work closely with our engineering and R&D teams to design, optimize, and deliver innovative mechanical solutions that drive the transition to clean energy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for hydrogen production, storage, and distribution.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and documentation using software such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or CATIA.
  • Perform mechanical and thermal stress analyses and contribute to design validation through simulations (e.g., FEA).
  • Collaborate with process, electrical, and control engineers to ensure system integration and manufacturability.
  • Support prototype development, supplier engagement, and design reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations (DIN/ISO, PED, ATEX).

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally within the renewable energy or hydrogen sector.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar).
  • Knowledge of pressure vessel design, fluid systems, or thermal management is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with German and EU engineering standards.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (German is an advantage).
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and able to manage tasks independently in a remote environment.

These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
