Job Description:

Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Permanent, Data Center & Life Sciences Project)

Location: Germany Cologne area

Experience Required: 10-15 years in mechanical engineering, with specific experience in data centers, life sciences, or pharmaceuticals.

Languages: Fluent in German and English

Contract: Permanent

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the mechanical design and implementation of HVAC, cooling systems, and critical infrastructure for a data center, ensuring compliance with life sciences industry standards.
  • Oversee the development and installation of mechanical systems like HVAC, fire suppression, plumbing, and ventilation systems, with a strong focus on energy efficiency and system reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical engineers to integrate mechanical systems with electrical and IT infrastructure.
  • Ensure all mechanical systems are optimized for data center environments, with consideration for high uptime, energy efficiency, and operational safety.
  • Supervise the testing and commissioning of mechanical systems to ensure that they meet design specifications and industry standards.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior engineers, ensuring knowledge transfer and technical growth within the team.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation and reports related to system design, compliance, and performance.

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Review and validate mechanical system designs and ensure alignment with project specifications.
  • Work with contractors and internal teams to oversee the installation and testing of mechanical systems in the data center.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and resolve complex issues related to system integration.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure timelines are met and systems are operating efficiently.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure installation quality and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and assist with the technical development of the engineering team.

Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.

His role involves teaching the consultants that are new to the company the foundations of recruitment and our systems before then helping them to upskill in areas specific to each consultant. Working closely with different consultants and watching them implement the feedback, apply it, and then benefit off the back of it.
