Geotechnical Engineer – Major Tunnelling Project | 12‑Month Freelance | Hybrid (Madrid)
The Role
We are supporting one of Europe’s leading engineering teams who are looking to bring on one Geotechnical Engineer for a major tunnelling and foundation design project in Madrid.
You’ll be part of a powerhouse department of 70+ geotechnical engineers, working on high‑level tunnelling design, ground behaviour modelling, and complex geotechnical calculations across major infrastructure schemes.
This is an initial 12‑month freelance contract, with a hybrid setup including some office presence in Madrid and flexible remote rotation.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Mining Engineering
- 5–10 years’ experience in geotechnical & foundation engineering
- Strong background in tunnelling, total tunnel design & geotechnical calculations
- Experience with shallow & deep foundation design
- Experience designing containment solutions (screens, anchors, etc.)
- Road geotechnics: stability & support calculations for fills/slopes in soil & rock
- Software: PLAXIS, RS2, Rido, Slide, Swedge, RocPlane
- Solid understanding of structural behaviour
- Autonomous working style with a collaborative, team‑focused mindset
- Professional level of English
