Interim Credit Controller · Hybrid
Job Opportunity – Interim Credit Controller - South of England
A local authority client of mine are currently on the lookout for an Interim Credit Controller to join their team.
Contract Duration: 3 Months (Likely to extend)
Rate: DOE
IR35: Inside.
Hybrid: X2-3 days in office per week.
Days: X5 days per week is the preference but could also consider someone working 3 or 4 days.
Start Date: ASAP
Your role delivers:
- Proven experience in credit control, debt management, and income recovery.
- Strong knowledge of local authority exchequer services (AP, AR, debt).
- Ability to analyse aged debt and take proportionate recovery action.
- Experience managing invoicing, billing accuracy, and customer accounts.
- Understanding of prompt payment, supplier query resolution, and AP controls.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage sensitive cases, including vulnerability and hardship.
- Strong financial systems and Excel skills with high attention to detail.
- Experience supporting or supervising staff and coordinating workloads.
- Knowledge of financial regulations, audit requirements, and internal controls.
- A culture of continuous improvement of systems and processes within the Finance Service.
- Prepare working papers, reconciliations, and technical notes for audit purposes, acting as a key contact for external auditors on designated areas of AR, AP and debt management.
- High quality financial information to budget holders, Finance Team members, Internal and External Auditors and Government departments.
- Provide training and support to finance staff and service managers on system use and best practice.
- Reliable and robust financial information to the Chief Financial Officer and the Head of Finance in collaboration with the Principal Accountant Corporate strand and Principal Business Partner.
- Full compliance with GDPR principles and the councils’ Information Management Policy.
- Support the mentoring and development of junior finance staff by sharing technical expertise and acting as a point of escalation.
Successful candidates:
- Minimum AAT qualified.
- Local authority experience is desirable but not essential.
- It is essential that candidates will work a minimum of X2 days in office per week, but ideally X3 days.
- AR & Cashiering experience is more desired rather than AP.
- Candidates must have good exchequer experience.
