Freelance Tunnelling Geotechnical Engineer – 6‑Month Contract

We’re currently supporting a leading engineering contractor in their search for an experienced Tunnelling Geotechnical Engineer to join their team on a 6‑month freelance basis in West Yorkshire. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a major infrastructure programme and play a key role in technical delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide geotechnical and tunnelling engineering expertise across design and site phases
- Review and interpret ground investigation data and assessments
- Support the design of temporary and permanent works
- Offer technical input during construction, problem‑solving ground‑related issues
- Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, safety requirements, and project specifications
Experience & Skills Required
- Proven experience in tunnelling and geotechnical engineering
- Strong understanding of ground conditions, soil/rock behaviour, and GI data
- Experience with tunnel design methodologies and modelling software
- Ability to operate effectively within multi‑disciplinary project teams
- Chartered or working toward chartership (ICE, CIWEM, or similar) – desirable
