Job Title: HSE Lead – Substation Project

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Lead to oversee all HSE activities on a major substation project in Denmark. This is a freelance position for an initial 12-month contract, with a strong emphasis on managing subcontractors and ensuring full compliance with local and international safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all HSE aspects of the substation construction project
  • Supervise and coordinate HSE performance across multiple subcontractors
  • Ensure compliance with Danish regulations, client standards, and international best practices
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Lead incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Deliver HSE training, inductions, and toolbox talks
  • Act as the main point of contact for all HSE-related matters on site
  • Promote a strong safety culture across the project

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an HSE Lead on large-scale construction or substation/energy projects
  • Strong background in managing subcontractors on-site
  • Relevant HSE certification (NEBOSH or equivalent required)
  • Fluency in English is essential; Danish is highly preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations and standards
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Our Three Pillars of Training

Academy:
Week 1 is a series of remote sessions to learn all things systems, followed by a 1 week academy process which is a mixture of classroom and deskside this will be in one of our UK offices and usually consists of 3-8 other consultants all starting their journey together.

Experienced Modules:
These are a variety of sessions curated by us designed to support consultants as they are progressing through the career ladder, the aim is to ensure consultants at all levels have access to L&D.

Junior Management Programme:
Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.

His role involves teaching the consultants that are new to the company the foundations of recruitment and our systems before then helping them to upskill in areas specific to each consultant. Working closely with different consultants and watching them implement the feedback, apply it, and then benefit off the back of it.
